Filing status

Single = unmarried. Married filing jointly = married, one combined return (usually best for married couples). Married filing separately = married, separate returns. Head of household = unmarried and you pay over half the cost of a home for a qualifying dependent.

Estimated AGI (this year)

Your total income for the year minus a few standard adjustments. Used for the medical-expense deduction floor.

Home office I use part of my home regularly and exclusively for business

Check this ONLY if you use part of your home regularly AND exclusively for your business (a dedicated room or area — not the kitchen table). Simplified method = $5 per square foot, up to 300 sq ft, so a max of $1,500.

Vehicles / mileage

Add each vehicle you use for business. Business miles = miles driven for work (client visits, supply runs, business errands) — NOT your commute to a regular workplace. Keep a mileage log; estimate if you must.

Dependents

Add anyone you claim as a dependent for this tax year. We use these for the Child Tax Credit ($2,000/qualifying child under 17 with SSN), Credit for Other Dependents ($500), Child & Dependent Care Credit, and EITC.
